Key facts
- There are over 900 national bodies across the UK, which have over 20,000 board appointments to them.
- Women hold 35% of national appointments, with only 6.2% of public appointments being held by minority ethnic women
- The number of women with disabilities holding public appointments at March 2005 was 413, or 5.3% of the total.

The figures speak for themselves - it's simply not good enough!
Here in South Yorkshire we can make a change. As women we need to ensure that our skills, and life experience are brought to bear on the decisions that are made for us.
There is a change in the way public bodies are seen, and see themselves; they are recognising the need to be more representative of the population. To this end public appointments are being made more open. And women are encouraged to apply for vacancies.

New Public Appointments Vacancies Website
A new website from the Public Appointments Unit is now available. It provides a single source of information about public appointments vacancies at national, regional, and local levels across England and the UK. You can search the site by area of interest, government department and by location to identify the vacancies of most interest to you.
