The Department of Health - Research and Development
The Department invests in research to support government objectives for public health, health services and social care, as well as contributing to the government science strategy. The Department of Health has allocated approximately £650m in 2005-2006 through the policy research programme and NHS R&D programme. The policy research programme undertakes development and evaluation in public health, health services and social care in order to ensure that policy is based on reliable evidence of needs. The NHS R&D programme aims to identify NHS needs for research and to commission research to meet those needs (£100m in 2005-2006). Professor Sally Davies is the director of research and development at DH. Click here for details of the latest research programmes >
